Statement on Under 13 Participation

For 2020 and going forward, U13 will no longer be recognised by MTBA as a National Championships category. In consultation with the MTBA Members Advisory Commission (MAC - Sport & Technical), this decision has been made to:

  1. Align practices in relation to Junior participation and competition with worlds best practice and contemporary sport science research and evidence, altering the focus for U13s from elite performance to development;
  2. Bring National Championships operations into line with MTBA Technical Regulations, providing clarity for members and stakeholders and adhering to our adopted duty of care for riders, officials, volunteers and the general public;
  3. Align appropriately with our adopted Guidelines on Junior Participation (link: https://www.mtba.org.au/wp-content/uploads/MTBA_MAN0003-5-Guidelines-on-Junior-Participation-in-Mountain-Bike-Events-Formalised-Training-Skills-Sessions-.pdf); which is in process of review.
