2020 National Junior Travel Program

XCC / XCO / DHI / Trials National Championships - Bright, VIC

The MTBA National Championships are a fundamental part of MTBA’s junior development program for riders ranging from intermediate through to elite level. The Championships also form an integral part of the selection process for development camps and junior national teams. MTBA recognises that attending National Championships can be a significant time and financial burden on families. In response MTBA has developed a program that gives the opportunity for U17, U19 and U23 aged riders to attend selected National Cup and Championship events without requiring parent/guardian accompaniment and under the supervision of experienced and accredited coaches and staff. 

Eligibility: The camp is open to all riders aged 15 to 22 (U17, U19, U23 and Elite category riders aged 22 or under at 31 Dec 2019) and covers the disciplines of XCO, XCC, DH and Trials. The staff will also facilitate any athlete wanting to race team relay (you will need to organise your own team) and pump track championships. There are no qualifying requirements but riders are reminded that this is a National Championships and not suitable for beginners or inexperienced riders. 

The program will be staffed by -
Evan James - MTBA Sport Manager - (MTBA Level 2 MTB coach). 
Anna Beck - Elite XCO, XCM and GE athlete (Level 2 coach, Paramedic)
Tyson Schmidt - 2017-19 World Championships DHI performance support staff member - (MTBA Level 1 Coach)

Flights: Flights MUST be booked to arrive and depart within a specific time window to facilitate logistics. 

Arrive at Tullamarine Airport  Melbourne before 12pm Tuesday March 10th
Depart from Tullamarine Airport  Melbourne after 2pm Monday March 16th

Cost: $695 


      • All ground transport from airport.
      • Accommodation at The Place, Bright.
      • All meals / food (excluding race food – gels etc).
      • Supervised/coached practice.
      • Basic mechanical support.
      • Nutritional, race prep and warm up advice.

Not Included:

      • Race entry.
      • Race food (gels, sports drinks etc).
      • Flights to Melbourne (or transport to a pickup point if local to the event).

Important Information Regarding Serious Injury Management: All staff running the National Junior Travel Program have first aid training and all events included in the program are serviced by professional medical support. In rare instances athletes may sustain an injury or illness that prevents them from travelling home within the advertised program time-frame. This may include, but is not limited to, being admitted to hospital and/or injuries that prevent an athlete from flying. While MTBA will take all reasonable steps to facilitate the athletes return home, where the athlete is unable to travel home through the normal program logistics the athlete becomes the responsibility of the parent or guardian. MTBA strongly recommends the use of travel insurance to facilitate the cancellation or re-booking of flights.
